WOW! Anything Can Happen At The Mastery!!!
The Mastery is alive and flourishing in Alberta and we have 17 more new grads to prove it! The Calgary Mastery workshop this past weekend was buzzing with participants, assistants, Back Row and a record number of Observers – THANK YOU to everyone who stopped in to relish the Mastery energy or to support a friend and stayed to contribute support. It was a magical weekend in SO many ways, because of each of you.
What I love about the Mastery is that I continue to get new GEMS each time I show up – at a Mastery meeting and especially at the weekend workshops. Here are 2 of mine:
This past weekend, I realized that in my focus to attain specific milestones on my journey (ie. getting to Back Row, taking the next trip, having kids, getting the next big promotion etc), I often miss the incredible gifts in this moment, where I am at. So, this weekend - with new awareness and powerful results - I began asking myself:
- “What am I excited about right here and now that I would NOT have if that future event were already here?”
Also, I set my intention for the weekend that I wanted to surrender more and be vulnerable in my leadership role – whew! Be mindful of what you ask for, as the Universe surely delivers!!
In the process, I discovered on another level that (as an organizer and reforming control freak!) as I surrender and let go of the outcome, I get to be more present to what is unfolding right in front of me. Much to my great surprise, co-leading the Assistant’s Team this past weekend, my team felt more deeply connected to me when I didn’t have all the answers, when I didn’t know who was doing the afternoon piece, or how clean-up was going to get done on Sunday etc. Having an unexpectedly small assistant’s team created the space where I couldn’t plan it all in advance – I had to be open and trust that everything would unfold as it needed to, all I needed to do was ask for what I needed and whatever it was, it would get covered at the right time by someone. Which it did! Interestingly, the more I went with the flow and just dealt with things as they came up, the more I was able to tap into a deeper ‘knowing’ and ‘intuition’. It is all perfect.

Anything can happen at The Mastery!!! I encourage YOU to come on out to a Mastery and Assist – you never know what your GEMS will be! Here are the dates of the upcoming workshops in your area:

We have yet another girl in the Davis family! Alena (pronounced ah-lay-nah) Jesse Davis was born at 5:10 a.m. Jan 17 at our home with the assistance of midwives. We are very blessed by God for such a healthy birth and wonderful new addition to the family. Thank you to all our friends and family for all of concern and support.

Hello Mastery family,
As Shilo says so eloquently in her piece, the Mastery in Alberta is definitely alive and well. I send out a huge thank you to all of you who were willing to speak to those you care about and share your Mastery experience with them in hopes of having them join us at this Mastery past or an upcoming Mastery.
The Mastery this weekend was another transformational, heart-opening experience for myself and those I spoke to at the weekend. I often hear after each Mastery Backrow members or Assistants say “this was the most inspiring Mastery ever”. And, those words were spoken again on Sunday night. It makes me wonder if we just keep getting more open to the experience each time, or that we forget the power of the workshop not having been around it for a couple of months? What I know for sure is that there was a lot of laughter and more tears than I remember having been shared in a while this weekend.
There was an incredible amount of support offered to the participants by our small and mighty assistants team and a fabulous group of observers who pitched right in and made themselves part of the team for whatever portion of the weekend they were available. Thanks for bringing your full beautiful Selves to this weekend.
If you are reading the pieces here in the newsletter that are written by those of us who just experienced the Mastery thinking, what are they on? I invite you to think about how you felt right after your Mastery and to ask yourself Am I living as fully as I did that weekend? Am I seeing others as I did that weekend? Am I challenging myself as I did that weekend? Am I staying in my heart as I did that weekend? And if not, I invite you to choose to do so. As it is truly a choice. If on your own you have difficulty getting there, I encourage you to re-read your reviews from your weekend and to contact a few if not all of your Mastery group to help remind yourself of how they saw you on the weekend. And, if you would like to come play with that energy again I invite you to join us at the Edmonton Mastery in June and the Calgary Mastery in August in either an assisting or observing capacityor for the really courageous, come back and do the weekend again (review):-)

The power of the monologue
Where do we get the chance in our day to day lives to fully express ourselves, at full volume, with full on emotions? For most of us --nowhere!
If we grow through risk, if we gain confidence through risk, then we need to risk to keep growing and becoming more confident in our lives. And I think most of you would agree one of the most risky parts of the Mastery is the monologue --and one of the most fulfilling.
Well this past weekend I confirmed in my own mind just how scary and ENLIVENING the monologue is. Since becoming a member of back row
4 years ago (in 2004), I have not performed a monologue at a Mastery workshop -- although I have taken advantage of the opportunity at most of our Mastery social events (look for an announcement of our next social event in this issue of the newsletter).
Saturday was intense -I had to keep refocusing on being present in the room --sound familiar?
At the end of the night it was my turn, nervous, sure I would forget what I wanted to say, I rushed the stage with ABANDONMENT and GLEE -- on the outside, inside I was a bundle of nerves.
My intention was to not only deliver a passionate, poignant, emotional monologue -- I intended to propose to the love of my life -- Shilo. And not just in front of my 17 new best friends who were the participants but also about another 25 of my Mastery family including Shilo's Mom and Sister.
Well you will have to watch the video clip to see how it went -- trust me it was beyond my wildest expectation.
The laughter, the tears , the heart felt congratulations and most unexpectedly the comments of how inspired people were.
" I was so engrossed I actually exclaimed out loud ( something I never do) "Holy Shit, he's really going to do it."
" I never knew their were men like you --and I am clear I deserve a man as good as you."
" Wow, you set the bar high for me when I propose to someone -- and my girlfriend is in the room."
"Can you coach my boyfriend on how to propose." (Just send them to Mastery)
" I laughed I cried and I was totally with you for every syllable. It felt like you moved through me with your words and your presence."
Of course my favourite reviews were from my soon to be Mother-in-law and Sister- in -law. What man gets a review of his marriage proposal -especially from the new family?
And so many of my dearest friends -- some who I had not seen in a very long time.
So take a risk, live your life to the fullest, and if you have forgotten what that looks like, and feels like, then join us at the next Mastery.
There is room for each of you on the team, either for all 3 days, or whatever moments work for you.
Of course my highest recommendation is to become an assistant ( if you have not assisted then your Mastery experience is not complete yet), and DO A MONOLOGUE --now that is living in the moment!!!
Wherever you are, what ever is happening in your life, find room for a little Mastery therapy, it is good for what ails you.

Circles of friends, neighbours, be it through sports, prayer or even hardship bring like minded people with shared values together in community. Many people have support systems made up of people in their community, who know them well, and whom they trust.
When it comes to having people in your life who agree to look out for each other, agree to keep track of each other’s goals, dreams and whereabouts. Who encourage and support each other’s ideas or needs and thereby providing a more fulfilling experience of life for each other, can only be described as “Awesome.”

Who are the supporting players in your life? Are they open to being there for you? Are they people you can go to for moral support or even count on for some assistance if need be?
Over the next few weeks identify a couple of people in your life and ask them if they are open to being there for you in that way. Some may agree to be on your team and others may not. The idea though is to have a solid team or support system in place that is there for you when needed.

Mastery Granola
4 cups oats (quick oats, wild oats – whatever kind you prefer)
*1 cup dried cranberries
*1 cup almonds (whole or slivered)
*1 cup pumpkin seeds
*1 cup sunflower seeds (unsalted)
*2/3 cup flax seed
*1 cup raisins
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1/4 cup olive oil
*1/2 - 2/3 cup honey
Preheat over to 200oF. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl (I use one side of a turkey roaster) and mix thoroughly.
Drizzle oil over the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly again for the second time. Then drizzle honey and mix thoroughly a third time. Spread mixture over a cookie sheet no more then ½ inch thick.
Bake for 60 minutes, stirring every 20 minutes. After an hour, turn the heat of the oven up to 350oF and bake the granola for another 15-20 minutes or until the mixtures browns lightly. Spread out on wax paper until cool. Enjoy!! Makes tons!
* indicates that you can adjust these amounts based upon personal preference.
Once cool, you can also add chocolate covered raisins, Smarties or M&Ms to make it into “trail mix” – this needs to be done after the granola has been baked and cooled.

Dear friends,
On a one day excursion to New York, our little group was dropped off in Greenwich village at lunch time. A man in a big hat on a bicycle who identified himself as Kevin, a fire department lieutenant, pulled up next to us and asked if we needed any help. Well we said, we would like to find a place to eat that was not a tourist mecca, a place that the locals enjoyed. He whipped out his cell phone and called his wife who had a great idea for us. Kevin told us how to get to an Italian eatery that had been there for 90 years. It was a tiny underground room with crisp white tablecloths and signed photos of celebrities
lining the walls.
The owner was waiting for us. We were the only customers for the entire two hours that we were there. Pietro suggested that we put down the menu and just allow him to cook for us. He brought dish after delectable dish until we couldn’t eat another bite. During the meal we chatted with him and our waiter, Tomas, who looked like a cast member from The Sopranos. Family photos were passed around while Pietro told us about his daughter who had moved to California to break into the movies. When we left, we felt as if we had stopped for lunch with old friends or cherished family members.
So maybe we did not have time to go to the top of the Empire State building or shop at Bloomingdales' but we met the best of New York, the best of anywhere you can travel. It was people, new faces, new friends, members of the human family. No matter where you are, there is an opportunity to connect, to create family, to build memories, to share the joy of being alive. Everyone has a story and every story is worth hearing.

Mission Peru 2008 supporting children in need
As a recent Mastery Grad I thought I would reach out to other members for support as I prepare for an upcoming Mission Trip to Peru in July.
Our organization, For the Love of Children Society of Alberta is a volunteer, Non Profit Society.
The mission of the Society is: To provide help, hope and support to disadvantaged children locally, regionally and internationally.
For over 27 years the society has helped children in need, from the homeless and abused to children with learning and physical disabilities and those requiring specialized medical attention by providing funding, medical aid and supplies to meet their needs.

In Holotropic Breathwork, self-expression is guided from within using accelerated breath against a backdrop of an evocative musical sound scape. The workshop setting is an adobe centre located on Chiron farm on the outskirts of Calgary towards the foothills. I am mastery grad and also Grof Transpersonal Training certified.
Upcoming dates for day long breathwork workshops in the Calgary area are Saturday Apr 12th, May 10th and June 7th and in Edmonton Mar 29th. Free informational teleseminars are regularly scheduled.
